Yes. And Welsh women traditional costume is a hat a bit like these only flat at the top, along with a great big shawl, lace and a big skirt.

My mother grew them! I think turnips might always have been a regional thing though. Irish and maybe Scottish but not so much Wales, I think. Also, pumpkins are slightly easier to carve!
