Many underground railway systems inform the passengers as to how soon it will be before the next train arrives, where it is going, etc...

In the Belgian capital city of Brussels the metro uses these graphical displays to also show where the trains are.

Watch how it shows the progress of the moving trains.

This was filmed in the evening rush hour, when there were plenty of trains in service.

  • Yes, indeed it is.

    I first saw this system in 1994, but it was only yesterday that I went back and got around to filming it properly.

    I see another benefit of this system - it lets passengers see how things are running, how many trains are in use, where they are, etc.

    It would be a real thrill to see this sort of thing in London, but alas I doubt it would happen, not least because people would use the information gained to create bad publicity when there are problems.
