  • I think that your dynamo could do with some piano cloth bearings ;-)

  • Ha ha! Quite right!

Seriously, it was noisy like that only for the first running: undercut commutator, I guess, unseated brushes.

It is now duly quiet, having been run for an hour or three.

It only makes a soft, proper hum now.

Thanks for your always bright commentaries!

  • #14 bulb, 300mA at 2.47V.

It is surprising that it did not burn out during the abuse.

It did turn black in just those few minutes.

Perhaps it withstood twice the rated voltage and current?

It sure would not last long this way

  • Delightful project! What was the DC motors original application?

  • where can i buy one thanks

  • Hi Devin. It was a 2.5V/300mA bulb.

    I over-volted it, probably to about 4V.

It would not last long that way.

The generator was fresh out of the box.

It was very noisy the first minutes of operation

until the brushes found their seating (running in).

It's a good machine. I have since dressed it up and will have more and more "impressive"(lol) micropower demonstrations to offer.

  • That is really bright! Is it brighter than a common light bulb? (120 VAC)

  • Wow that works really well!! What's the rating of your bulb?
