@yellowman88 Yellowman, I have lived in South Korea for a decade now. Don't insult my intelligence. Do you have any idea how laughable westerners find you Koreans who feel the need to lie to save face to the rest of the world. Those of us living here just chuckle.
@Yeongugwan808 Karoke bars are the only place where you could get some service but it would probably cost you a shitload of money. They are ugly girls too.
My friend says S. Korea's sex industry is more for the rich people. High end prostitutes earn a lot of money. They cater to the elites in S. Korea like Seoul university alums etc... Business men.
The porn industry is even illegal in S.Korea. As a result, a lot of korean men watch japanese porn.
@Yeongugwan808 it's not rampant. Those ads with super hot chicks is just a marketing scheme for people to go shitty nightclubs/karoke bars.
Korean american. taught english over the summer and was bored one day so i went to the redlight district in seoul w/ a friend. my friend was a criminology major trying to become a lawyer in S.Korea. he told me how it works.
Hahaha national newspapers with hookers photo in there pages as ads? Such things may happen in countries where it is legal. You have never seen a local newspaper, including your own. Korea has , unlike Europe, faithfully followed the US directives to prevent prostitution, that;s all. Neither Europe nor Japan(where human trafficking still exists, unlike in Korea which purged that thing in 1989) have done as much as Korea, if anything at all. Just stay within your narrow ego.
You just lived about for a century, no more, and that as an outsider. Korea has done much more than others like Europe ,Japan and Taiwan against prostitution ,that is the fact. If you are not satisfied, then go to a Shariah jurisdiction like Saudi Arabia where people are caned for drinking. Or simply go back to your country if you don't like it here.
@xxwzaebd Some places have been reduced, or closed, but as a foreigner who has lived in Korea for over a decade (and isn't a Korean interested in sugar-coating the truth about this country to save face), prostitution is very much alive and well here. Even national newspapers have photo ads for hookers in between the pages (and not just pictureless classifieds, either). XXwzaebd, go back to Koreasentry where you belong.
Korea has done much more than other countries while others like Germany ,Netherland or Australia have done nothing related. Actually, there are areas where Korea was rewarded by the US-Koreans can enter US easier than Germans now and also export control of certain items has been eased for Korea. European countries have done almost nothing against human trafficking;brothels are wide open still their governments ignore the US.
Nobody goes to the remaining brothels which are open but in fact out of business. I have noticed CCTV cameras in such places and people hide their faces even if they pass there for other things. (The place shown here is now a parking lot) They are not satisfied with closing the brothels and other places of prostitutions; they are now going to close not only the so-called "kiss rooms" (many girls already are quitting because of this) and also "talk rooms" which offer no physical contact.
