i have always sort of gotten it however. just after years of playing guitar, bass, upright bass, and i recently begun learning tuba, its just second nature to me.

Wow, I've had the idea that learning music and learning instruments are different things, that music is a language for quite some time. But when you said it's a very simple language compared to spoken languages like chinese ect. the penny really dropped. I have to start building my vocabulary.

Cool. You get it. Music is really pretty simple. It's just so often TAUGHT really badly that everybody thinks it's this big complicated deal.
That said, it amazes me to this day how much you can express with this simple language.
