The new Netbook remix bootup.
Less than a minute on a netbook. Seems quick to me.

  • 明日,

What is the diff. between this and the desktop version?

Can you adjust the power settings on this? How does battery life compare to xp?

  • The difference is only really in pre-installed packages and configuration. NBR is designed to run on netbooks so obviously the NBR package is pre-installed along with some other packages for netbooks (e-book reader, etc.). That being said, anything that can be installed on desktop ubuntu can be installed on NBR. Power settings can be manipulated, command line use knowledge helps, but there are good tutorials around for that. battery by default is slightly less than XP.

  • are you having issues with sdhc cards and ubuntu 9.04?If yes, any soluition?

  • I haven't had any trouble with SDHC cards in 9.04 on my desktop or my netbook.

  • does the NBR version have the eye candy?

    Like Compiz Fusion.

    thx if you can reply

  • I'm not sure. If it doesn't by default, it can certainly be installed. NBR uses all the standard package repositories, it's only really a different set of pre-installed packages.

  • what does timer off grub mean?

  • im stuck with ubuntu 11.04 works awesome windows sound skips on my netbook

  • Removing the timer on grub is a bad habit because if you need to use a backup kernel you can't if your main one crashes (without running a live usb/cd and mounting the partition and edit the file)

  • I've gotta say this one turned out pretty well for me. I got an Asus Eee PC and it actually worked better out of the box than Eeebuntu. I get occasional flicker in battery mode and I can't change the MAC like in other distros, but so far those are the only wrinkles. If you have an Asus netbook, I'd still recommend trying both distros though.

  • I saw a video about this OS showing like a cube that u can use to jump from a desktop to another..that was so cool!!

does this OS that you've showed in this tut. have the same thing?

I'm just afraid that what i saw previously wasn't really Ubuntu!

and what does it mean when u say the New Notebook remix? cuz i saw many tutz. saying the same thing about this OS

thanks if u can reply soon please =)

  • i have a laptop with the same res. and it seems to run very well

  • you can use the normal desktop in NBR. i dont know the actual changes beyond the user interface that is on by default

  • When you first install ubuntu, it should recognize the resolution when it boots, and all your files remain the same unless you wipe the drive. (Some .exe programs may not work)

  • Would you happen to know if this operating system supports 1366x768 res?

I would like to put this operating system on my 3 year old laptop do I have to move my files or will it recognize them and incorporate them?
