Killzone 2 review

Sonys flagship title for the PlayStation 3 has finally hit store shelves, but does it live up to the hype, or is it just another face in the crowd?

Plot: You play as Thomas Sevchenko, a.k.a Sev, you along with your crew including Rico, Natko, Garza, and later evalyn are sent to the hostile planet Helghan to take down the emperor Visari along with his crown. But of course it doesnt go as easy as planned and the Helghast put up one hell of a fight. The story will span you about 8-10 hours depending on the difficulty setting and your skill level. However there is a lot of incentive to go back and replay it again for the special Intel and unlockables.

Graphics: Horrible, disgusting and futile is what I would use to describe the Helghast, but damn do they look good! Killzone 2 IS the best looking console game to date, there is not one thing you can say bad about them. The textures are out of this world, Character models look real, The sheer detail on the weapons are amazing along with the particle effects. Ragdoll physics combined with bullet detection on the enemies makes Killzone 2 one of the most atmospheric games to come out in a long time. Even the wind plays a factor, for example, I tried to throw a grenade at an enemy but a gust of wind picked up so my grenade flew a different direction, things like that make this game amazing. Light sources play a huge role as well, as you look out a window you hud will glare realistically & shadows stretch out just as they should, my jaw literally dropped when I saw this.

Gameplay: If you go into this game expecting call of duty you will be upset, But if you go into this game not knowing what to expect, you will be blow away. The gameplay is much different than anything else out there, your character has weight, what I mean by this is once you move the analog sticks it will take Sev time to move, remember you are controlling his arms and legs, not his eyes. So as you play the game you will adjust to this realistic feeling, also you will notice that carrying a shotgun feels slower than carrying a pistol, just as it should. The AI is astounding, they will try to flank you, run from grenades near by, hit you in the face if your close, work as a team, and adjust to your movements, its truly nothing I have ever experienced before and 2 play throughs will never be the same.

Multiplayer: Killzone 2 uses a class based type of multiplayer. Different classes have different weapons and abilities to use, and every class is balanced perfectly. For example you can choose to be an engineer which give you a shotgun and the ability to build turrets, or you can choose to be a Scout which gives you a sniper rifle and the ability to cloak yourself. However you have to earn these classes by ranking up, but being the highest rank doesnt mean you get everything. You also have to earn ribbons, ribbons give you medals, and medals give you an extra ability. For example, killing 5 people with your cloak enabled gives you a ribbon, get enough of these ribbons and you get a medal which give you a new ability. So as you can see, the multiplayer portion of Killzone 2 is very deep and robust, itll keep you busy for months on end and keep you coming back for more.

Final thoughts: The answer is yes, yes Killzone 2 has delivered on the hype and surpassed it, yes it shut up all the people that ever doubted it, and Yes, it is worth picking up. So if you got the money I highly suggest getting it. I give Killzone 2 a 9.5 out of 10, no game is perfect, but Killzone 2 comes damn close.
