More hi-jinx at Hoggtown's MOST LIFE-CHANGING ADDRESS....
I have mashed video clips from John Waters' MONDO TRASHO, King Vidor's STELLA DALLAS, and Alfred E. Green's BABY FACE....
I needed something to dramatize attitudes about hooking, and strong women. DIVINE and BARBARA STANWYCK, fit the bill....
The audio for the C.K. Clarke overlay is from the conclusion of MONDO TRASHO. I thought it suited Clarke's intolerant/judgemental ethos.
Of all the early Asylum doctors, Clarke was by far the least sympathetic, totally lacking in two qualities essential to humanity: empathy, and compassion. The STANWYCK performance in pre-code BABY FACE is truly exceptional; things wouldn't get that gritty again in the movies, for another 50 years.
Only a movie, but it's interesting that it shows more understanding and psychology than some contemporary (or nearly contemporary) case histories.
To think they named a hospital after him!
