This mamma raccoon started showing up in the summer of 2008 when we would be feeding our baby raccoons. We always put food out for the wild raccoons and opossums, but she came early and would approach us then run back towards the feeder. So we would put some food out for her and within a few days she would stay about a foot away while we put food in her dish. We could see she was nursing and that was what was making her hungry enough to come near us. She started to bring her babies in with her. We were surprised to see that she had six instead of the usual two to four.
They come really early!
Cindy comes after dark.
Or is this in the morning? 6 babies. Wow!
Cindy only had 2 last season and this season.

The did come in early. They are the only ones who came during the day. Most of the time the wild ones come late at night. The mama we believe was one of two a neighbor raised and so she was used to daylight feeding. Also, she got started coming in before she brought the babies. We think she was very hungry and I guess nursing 6 babies would make her hungrier than usual.
