Ted Hefko and The Thousandaires perform "Margie" written (by Con Conrad and ragtime pianist J. Russel Robinson, Lyrics by Benny Davis) at Spike Hill in Williamsburg Brooklyn, Tuesday, May 11th 2010. Personnel: Ted Hefko, Tenor Sax and Vocals, Luca Benedetti, Telecaster Electric Guitar, Scott Ritchie, Upright Acoustic Bass, Moses Patrou, Drums. Video by Dave Orsborn.

My favorite version is that of Fats Domino but the song has been performed by a wide variety of performers in it 90 year history from The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, to Bing Crosby to Cab Calloway.

I lived in New Orleans for almost ten years and I'm fascinated with the way songs like these can stay revelant to a variety of styles of music. Too the casual listener Fats Domino is considered an early Rock and Roll pioneer, but he is at home in a Dixieland setting as well as his sets always include dixieland tunes like "Margie." Most of my favorite artists of any genre have learned and performed old time jazz tunes at some point in their formative years everyone.
