I agree with this. However this is too much too little too late for most. The CTU needs to focus on saving African American teachers jobs. More AA teachers have been fired under Lewis than any other president. If the CORE/CTU team can save jobs they will help eliminate poverty and we can do the research on our community. Also, we brought this to the attention of Reverend Jackson in 2009. This should have been done 2.5 yars ago It's too late for Blacks.

The Black Teacher Caucus should be ashamed of themselves for promoting this Socialist Communist agenda in the African American Community. The last thing we need is a group of young white Socialist Jews taking over,. Their own employees at the union are going on strike against Lewis and CORE because the have taken all their benefits. That's what Socialism looks like. Now that they have fooled the Black teachers out of their jobs. They are using the Black Caucus to spread their Socialist agenda.

Can anyone else say "revisionist history" and "indoctrination?" I respect teachers unions that stay true to their intentions and make their true intentions honest and public, however, the CTU has not done such a thing. The notion that it's only "those fat cats" pocketing money or wasting money is an utter hypocrisy. But hey, they'll never tell you that. It's always going to be "those fat cats!", don't bother telling the students that "those fat cats" are the union bosses.

Seems like the pro charter school crowd wants the elite private school experience. But that's not going to happen, I'm sorry to say. Diverting funds from public schools to publicly-funded charter schools is just going to create a sort of civil war of public funding that causes a lot of ruckus and doesn't solve the big issue. The big issue being: we habitually underfund public education and act amazed when we don't see results.

Chantel has experienced firsthand the impact of this failing school system both as a student and a community member. Chantel has provided valid points for a mature discussion--you sir have not. CPS schools have been dominated by corporate interests such as The Commercial Club of Chicago since the 1880's. The only check on this corporate power has been the unions. None of this is new. If you want to learn more, check out Dorothy Shipps' book about it "School Reform Corporate Style". She was head of the U of C Consortium. It's time for parents and teachers to unite to make sure Chicago's students get the neighborhood schools they deserve.

When the head of the largest charter org in Chicago is also the co-chair of the mayor's election campaign I think "charter crony" is an applicable term. There are some good charter schools, but many are no better than neighborhood schools and some have ver damaging policies of pushing out difficult students and not serving kids with special needs or English language learners. They do have very high teacher turnover and other issues too. Certainly no silver bullet.
