The Hon Michael Kirby opened The Keeping Place collection of Gordon and Elaine Syron at The Australian Museum, July 12th 2010.
This unique collection of Indigenous art began over 30 years ago for Gordon and Elaine Syron. They are the 'keepers' of an extensive collection of Indigenous art and artefacts, for which they are seeking a permanent home.
Based in a disused, leaking tin shed in the back of Redfern train station, The Keeping Place is an archive of 1400 paintings, plus artefacts, sculptures, historical photographs and more.
