Minister Wimal Weerawansa has emphasized at a media briefing in Colombo that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna was endeavouring to achieve their objectives through the working class.

The Minister said the JVP was attempting to achieve their ends by bringing the workers on to the streets as they did not succeed in doing so through the Students' Movements. This is the real situation. He revealed that about 80 percent of the workers in the Free Trade Zone had cast their votes to the Freedom Alliance. They are still children of families who are associated with the party.

This is a Government which has a two thirds majority. He stressed that the Government could approve any Bill if it wanted to take an arbitrary decision. But the President or the Government doe not want to take such decisions. It is a Government which gives an ear to the people. It also listens to trade unions. As such, the Minister called on the workers not to join in demonstrations which destroy lives. The need of the JVP today is to build their political existence by sacrificing any life.

The Minister told the media briefing that the present Government can solve any reasonable problem of the workers. As such, he urged the workers not to succumb to the desires of the JVP.
