i think its the wrong way to hold the guitar, the posture you're showing is correct only for barre chords and not for open chords...my opinion is that you don't use just your thumb to make the guitar stable, you have to support it with the palm of your hand also. for the beginners, check out some other videos, i think this one just isn't correct.
