We have the documentary and history of where and when it was created. the people in the northern of thailand and the land itself used to be under khmer Empire. That is why khmer culture has influenced on the way those people live. So, you should know why by now.

according to book called khmer popular dance, this dance is come from the enthic group called kola, khmer shan come from burma in 1830 to 1870.Their culture look like shan with some influced like chinese and malaysia.( nyonya influced on their traditional costume).

Yes, classical thai dance was directly influenced when the Khmer empire ruled over Eastern Siam, a long time ago.
