  • @nomamao What he's showing is the "textbook" way of practicing the technique. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of ways to apply this technique in a self defense situation. What you're seeing is only the demo/"textbook" way of showing it.

  • I actually use this throw! And you are all right about "catching the punch"! You really have to be pretty lucky to start this by catching. Maybe if you are that close and your arm is touching then... What we do is to grab the arm into that position by pulling the wrist. This is something that someone that is a grappler would do not some one who thinks they are a kickboxer.

But when you do it people fall hard because they are not used to falling straight down.

  • @to3mo when you become a solar panel, please let the world know.

  • @nomamao solar panels catch sunlight and it turns it into usable energy.

  • @nomamao Catching the arm / wrist / punch whatever is just a demonstration "situation" that ideally is that getting a hold of the limb is important. Reason why all martial arts or even the military demonstrates situation "what if this happens" and so you know what to do and not get star-struck. Just cause you learn how to throw a punch or kick, dont mean you learn how to use it in the time you really do get in a fight. So entirely its not that useless. You get what im saying?

  • reminds me of judo and chin na mixed together

  • great technique when done from a completely different range, setup and degree of pressure

  • If a punch is too fast to grab; the punch can be deflected using the same movements. The only alternatives are to "roll with the punch" such as in Western Boxing, or to get hit hard.

  • I'm going to go out on a limb and share this knowledge with everyone here, because I know it will be ignored: seeking to grab punches is like hoping to catch sunlight. For whatever good it does you, it's worthless in all reality.

  • @nomamao Well he just says catch the punch, I see it is much easier to catch or grab a hold of a persons wrist and do this very technique then to "catch" the punch. xD cause I don't know about you I'm not fast enough to stand and catch the punch while risking of a possibility of it hitting home to my face : ].

  • @nomamao LOL I agree catching punches shouldn't be done unless you really know you can win and chances to that cockiness wouldn't serve well on streets. I mean there isn't many who would just stand and watch there peers get massacred.
