http://www.maggieflaniganstudio.com/ The Maggie Flanigan Studio provides the best Meisner technique training in New York City. Call (917) 606-0982 for info.

Meisner acting classes involve a systematic approach which begins with simple exercises that increase in complexity as the actor gains skill. Any acting class that boasts teaching the Meisner acting technique will likely use a beginning exercise known as word repetition. In this practice, actors exchange a meaningless phrase again and again, until subtle inferences begin to emerge. The actors are then respond to subtle cues, taking meaning not from the words but from all the other attending nuances of voice, body language and other emotional cues they discover in their acting partner.

  • I am a teacher/lecturer. The insights here really appeal to me for what it can help me do performatively in the classroom. Any recommendations as to what to read/look at for learning to incorporate good acting as an educator?

  • I am taking Meisner Classes at my college right now and its so difficult but liberating at the same time. i am glad i am taking these classes.

  • I studied w/ Maggie and I LOVE her... and her passion...

  • an honest opinion, i felt that led me in circles...

  • @NotEntirelyMyself - Several teachers whom Sandy trained told me that it was impossible to "BE SANDY." Some other teachers have tried to impersonate his individual manner and personality (which I came to love, by the way). Sandy's unique sense of humor leavened the process. Personally, I'm wary of people who don't exhibit some humor, especially when dealing with something as important as life and art.

  • @NotEntirelyMyself - From talking to people whom I met who were trained by Sandy as actors, and as teachers, over the years, it is reasonable to say that Sandy changed somewhat over time. Individual teachers that Sandy trained are bound to have some differences in their teaching style. The fundamental principles remain the same, however.

  • this video fills me with joy and sends a good message to a world that i too would like to grow in. I have to say though, the violin in the background was a bit distracting and whoever edits (or doesnt edit) your stuff should be more creative...

  • Interesting and informative video - thank you for sharing

  • I'm with you BaileyMaddie. Vacheron is incredibly disrespectful and yet thinks that he is doing everyone a favor on speaking his mind. Ridiculous.

Also, Maggie Flanigan taught at the Bill Esper studio where she was highly respected before founding her own school.

  • I have no interest in getting into a discussion about teaching with someone like yourself. I simply find it extremely pretentious and downright mean-spirited for a person to target the videos of teachers and artists. The comments you made about Mr. Jarrett and Ms. Flanigan were incredibly disrespectful, and I find you to be an embarrassment to what teachers of actors should model - integrity and respect for other artists.
