There have been numerous new — and erroneous — attacks on domestic ethanol for contributing to the "Dead Zone" in the Gulf of Mexico.
Turns out, that as ethanol production has risen 6 fold over the past few years, the hypoxia levels in the dead zone have dropped by more than half.
Learn the facts about the dead zone. Watch our video and visit www.growthenergy.org/hypoxia.
More hypoxia results from urban use of fertilizer (which is increasing) than from rural use (which is decreasing rapidly on a pound/bushel basis). Better farming techniques include no-till and reduced use of fertilizer and much higher yields this millennium than last. Biogenic fuels are getting cleaner - fossil fuels dirtier.
