I recently hiked up to the top too and found a rattlesnake coiled amongst the rocks right next to the geological survey marker. We therefore couldn't sign in on the guest list.

good question... the land is privately owned, so my guess -- and it is a guess -- is that you'd have to get explicit permission from the owner of the land to do so... no idea if the owner is open to that kind of an idea or not.

You must pay a fee (I believe it is currently $20) into the box at the site that's there for that purpose... other than that, I suggest you check with the Highpointers website for the very latest updates, just to make sure that everything's kosher.
