Here are the lyrics so you can follow along:

Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan

Every streetlamp
Seems to beat a fatalistic warning
Someone mutters
And the streetlamp gutters
And soon it will be morning

Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life
And I musn't give in
When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin

Touch me
It's so easy to leave me
All alone with the memory
Of my days in the sun
If you touch me
You'll understand what happiness is

Look
A new day has begun

Susan Boyle (born 1 April 1961)[2][3][4] is a Scottish[5] singer who came to public attention when she appeared as a contestant on the third series of Britain's Got Talent.[6] Boyle became known when she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables in the competition's first round,[7] first broadcast in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2009.[8]

Boyle has always enjoyed singing; she attended Edinburgh Acting School, and took part in the Edinburgh Fringe. Prior to her appearance on Britain's Got Talent, her main experience had come from singing in church and karaoke in the local pubs in her village. She had also tried out several times for My Kind of People.[9]

When she appeared on the Britain's Got Talent stage, the audience and the judges appeared apprehensive and judgmental of her unpolished appearance. Upon finishing her song, she received a standing ovation from the live audience and unanimous praise from the judges.[10] She has been dubbed "The Woman Who Shut Up Simon Cowell".[4]

The contrast between the audience's first impression of her when she appeared on stage compared to the ovation she received afterwards triggered global interest. Articles about her appeared in newspapers worldwide, while the numbers who watched videos of her audition have set an online record.[11] Within nine days of her televised debut, videos of her audition, subsequent interviews of her, and her 1999 rendition of "Cry Me a River" had been viewed a combined total of over 100 million times on the Internet.[12] Cowell is reported to be setting up a contract with Boyle with his Syco Music company label, a subsidiary of Sony Music.[13]

  • @ohsinnaman I think your comments are unfair and arrogant. Susan is untrained; of course, she wouldn't know how to give a dynamic performance. She has a beautiful voice and although she didn't know what she was doing, she was willing to put herself out there and take a chance. That's why she got such an opportunity. You shouldn't envy her for having guts. Also, how do you know what she understands? Twelve years of training doesn't make you an authority on music or Susan.

  • I would say she just sings average like a normal person and was really wobbly and bad at the start if you listened carefully. I like the orginial song 99% better than this one and honestly don't think shes that good. Everyone thinks different though, so you can't say that I am talking utter rubbish.

  • She sounds very nervous. This is understandable. At her first performance, she had nothing to lose. Here, the world is expecting greatness and she feels her whole future is on the line, which, of course,it is. I'm pretty good under pressure, but I'm certain that my voice would shake a whole lot more than hers.

  • Standing Ovation

  • well, this may not have been her best, but it was a great attempt for someone like her, and I like her to, but i dont think this song fits her style really, I mean, if it was a different beautiful meaning song, she probably would've done better, I think personally she had stage fright at the beginning which wore off nearing the end, and she made a beautiful ending

  • that was beautiful :')

  • @ashleymarisa She's not exactly untrained. She had a private voice instructor, had singing lessons. That's not untrained.

  • @Moony479 Well, someone's got to lose. But, in my mind she didn't lose. She went on recording songs, made a career of it. That's not losing. In this song, Memory from Cats, I noticed that the first few notes were sour, or seemed sour to me. She lost out to Diversity. Maybe they made no mistakes, she made a few. Yet, again, she didn't exactly lose. Coming out second---that's a great thing.

  • @twiwonder I just got done listening to Elaine Page singing the same song, and I could tell the words. I couldn'y exactly make out the words when Susan sang it.o, yes, she could improve her diction. But, I felt for the most part she sanf beautifully.

  • @topsyluv I don't know if it's out of beat, but I did notice that the first few notews were sour, or seemed that way to me. Then she got back on track, and I thought she sang well.

  • @ArabellaTV I noticed her first few words were sour, or sounded sour to me. I am not an expert, though. I liked her singing Wild Horses better than this song. Yet, after the first few notes, she improved and I thought she sounded good. Again, WIild Horses, to me , anyway, was a better song for her.

  • @99IraqBaghdad99 I'm not doing a THUMBS DOWN, all in all she sang beautifully, yet didn't you notice the first few notes wewre sour. They sounded sour to me, anyway. Otherwise, she caught herself, got back on track and did a beautiful job. Maybe that's why people didn't like this video. Facts are facts. The first few notes were sour. That's no reason to use the F word. And I don't thinkl you were sorry at all in using the F word. If you were, you'd delete the message.
