A dream came true in November, 2001 when I had the opportunity to play guitar onstage with U2 during the Elevation tour in Oakland. I surprised the band by starting "A Sort of Homecoming" before they knew what was happening. Bono and Edge joined in and we played a version with me on acoustic, Edge on electric, and Bono screwing up the words - as is often the case. :) If anyone sees this and knows of any other video sources, please contact me as I haven't been able to locate any others, especially a full video recording (I have the audio). Thanks!

  • The crowd is ballistic lol

  • next fan up must start playing Acrobat or Red Hill Mining Town.

  • I wonder what would have happened if you started playing, say "Heartland". :)

  • OMG... I was there, across the heart from you, and what a wonderful experience... After you got off the stage you couldn't stop smiling. You did really, really well up there. I wish I had pics or videos for you... My friends and I talked to you for a second after the show, but you were completely on cloud nine and I'm sure it was a blur...

  • wow! Amazing! My favorite song of all time!!!

  • isaw that too but u2 does it more often

  • how did you get to play onstage?

  • I too was at this show. Best concert I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. It was only 2 months after 9/11 and the crowd was very emotional the entire night, especially when they displayed the names of those killed in the attacks (the crowd cheered when some of the Bay Area victims were displayed).

Oh, and to top it off I watched the entire concert standing 5 feet away from Gwen Stefani (No Doubt opened the show). Yeah, it was a good night.

  • I was at that show and it was one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had at a U2 show. My friend and I just looked at each other and screamed when we figured out what song it was. I get chills just thinking of it. Just INCREDIBLE!!!

  • I hope it comes back for the next tour!!!
