And just as I was complaining that I had never seen a proper Morris Dance from start to finish - along came 'Clerical Error' an olde stylee type Welsh group - and I totally love them. This was at the MIddlewich Folk & Boat Festival - June 17th 2006 It made me think of a Papa Lazarou troupe.

  • On remark in the description "an olde stylee type Welsh group":

Clerical Error is a Border Side.

Border Morris is anything but an old style. It has been basically recreated in the last thirty years.

  • sorry that you feel i am in error here. i have taken my information from their website and the head dancer's comments on the day.

That said, surely in order to have been REcreated in the last thirty years, it must have been CREATED at some point previous to that?

  • Hi, I saw on the net that "Clerical Error" is the name of the performing group. Do you know the title of this dance? Where should I find the music?

  • So sorry, but i do not know the name of the dance nor the music for this. they do have a website and it lists some of their dances and music.

the link to their webpage is http://homepages.tesco.net/~gregc/CE/index.html

  • this is pretty cool...but it somewhat reminds me of the japanese taiko drummers.>_>

  • Hi Kawaii,

Thanks for your comment - it does sound like you are telling me that it would be cooler if it did not remind you of the Taiko drummers?

I had never heard of them berfore your comment - so thanks - this time for the introduction to it - it is quite impressive.

    Sherry

  • personally I enjoy morris dancing as I play for a ladies side called Beggars Oak clog dancers and I also dance for Lichfield morris men.

unfortunatly though I'm currently out of action due to my left shoulder being damaged

  • beigist

  • Actually, us morris dancers have a lot of laughs and an awful lot of fun. And free beer. And free food. And you'd be surprised how many women have 'morris' fetishes. So who's laughing now.....(and anyway, what are you doing watching the morris if you think it's so crap ??? Hmmm?)

  • Please give your mum my love.

  • why must people always swear on these sites? great dancing guys keep it up

  • You are so wrong! The majority of men are married and their wives play a major role in the morris sides!

  • These dancers figure briefly in a new book called "Winifred's Well" that deals with the healing spring at Holywell. The mention (and picture) is in connection with a street play performed by the troupe that portrays the story (somewhat modified!) of Saint Winefride.

  • I beg to differ on that. There was that dude that recorded it years before the 70's revival.

  • One of my favourite Border Morris sides. Beautiful dancing, very smooth and coordinated. And real charism, thinks me.

  • I have never seen anything so gay in all my life. There is no point to this what so ever. None of these men have wifes or girlfriends, they most certainly have an active hobby in trainspotting, and last but certainly not least, they have shown us all what ENGLISH culture is truely all about. Acting like a gay. Thank you england, you gave me a laugh.
