As part of its 2009 Roundabout Education Campaign, The Region of Waterloo has created this music video/commerial. The infectious tune and simple lyrics reinforce the steps for pedestrians crossing at roundabouts. It will be used throughout the year to educate young and old on how to cross at a roundabout. Currently, the Region of Waterloo, (located in Ontario, Canada) has 11 roundabouts. The lyrics were written by Nancy Button, performed by Patrick Lefler and Dan Drysdale. The video was produced by CTV Southwestern Ontario. Join the Facebook group "The Roundabout Dance".

  • And it is called a dance because the balance in a roundabout is to be treated like a dance.

  • This has to be American.....ha...and what's with all the pointing

  • @157pontiac American? That's funny. This is for the Region of Waterloo, Ontario...this is in Canada. The pointing was meant as a marketing tool to teach people about the use of roundabouts. It may not be the most amazing thing, but everyone has heard it in our community and whether you like it or not, the tune is catchy or annoying enough (however you wish to look at it) to stick in peoples head.

  • what next? how to get on a bus? how to get a drink from a fountain? how to hail a cab? how to get outta bed and face a new day?

c'mon...is this really a necessary ad campaign?

  • Congratulations are due on some excellent steps being taken to educate the public.

A complaint among motorists is the lack of effort to educate those who can't seem to understand how to negotiate Roundabouts. After spending millions of dollars on a project, only a few dollars, if any, are invested to educate the public on how to best use a new roadway.

Contrary to that practice, the Region of Waterloo is proving exceptional in developing its Roundabout educational outreach.

  • What I don't get is why it's called The Roundabout Dance. Nobody is dancing in the video, and the song isn't particularly danceable. People are just pointing. A better title would be The Roundabout Point.

  • The song wasn't all that bad - the video, however, reminds me of those stupid 80's montages. Where the f**k is Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell lol?

Maybe if the infrastructure engineers had put the pedestrian-crossing lanes 20 metres AWAY from the f***(ing intersection, we wouldn't need a song/video/dance?

  • sometimes i hate this world

  • @DroverChicago ur mum

  • oh my gosh, that is so funny

  • I'm his vocal teacher.. As a pro, I think he has a good voice. =)

  • What's a "roundaboot"? XD

  • He's got a great voice! I just wish the song was longer so he could show it off a bit. I heard him live and he's great.
