Venezuelan viewers call for return of RCTV - 28 May 08

Supporters of Radio Caracas Television, Venezuela's oldest private television station, are calling for the channel's return, one year after its licence was not renewed by Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president and moved to satellite.

Al Jazeera's Lucrecia Franco reports from Caracas on the efforts to get the TV station back on the air.

RCTV is lucky to still be in existence given that it helped instigate a coup. It was a crappy TV channel. Showing the simpsons isn't freedom of expression.

LOL the guy on :57 says the government has attacked its rights to free expression and protest even though they are leading a protest in the middle of the capital what a dumb ass wonder what would have happened to him when Pérez Jiménez the dictatorship backed by Amercia was in power he most likely would have got his ballas chopped off lol.

There's a big difference between a reason to "object" to it, and a reason to "ban" it, and a reason to not give it a broadcasting license. Could you specify?

Porque Al-Jazeera en español puede servir mucho entre la gente de America Latina y Penisula Ibería y la gente del Asia suroeste (medio oriente) y africa del norte. Yo definitivamente lo recomiendo. Porque ahora, por lo general la gente de estas regiónes solo conocen lo que Norteamericanos y Europeos del norte transmiten acerda de estas regiones. Al Jazeera en Español va a revolucionalizar el mundo de noticías en español tambien.

Very true, Are you the actual reporter? Becuase I was thinking of writing a letter making this recomendation. Bueno no esoty hablando de una documental, solo un frase de 30 segundos con él y porque él renuncio su trabajo en RCTV. Cualquier reportaje acerca de RCTV, creo que los periodista deben que tener una "enterevistita"--con el. De todos modos Cuando Al-Jazeera (Algecira) va a comenzar un canal de noticias en Español? Hay planes?

You should listen to the script. I admire Izarra but can´t do a documentary. The point of the report is showing how the opposition is taking advantage of the momentum , the RCTV anno, to try to defeat the government in November´s elections. These are facts not opinions.

Well, what about if a new set of owners with no culpability in the coup decide to restart RCTV? Would there be any reason to object to that?
