Fed up with yet another killing by the local witch, the good people of Transylvania, 1765, promptly storm the cave of Vardella, a snarling, snaggle-toothed, one-eyed She Beast with a face that looks like a living turd. Swearing to return after her death, Ms. Vardella is then tied to "The Seat of Chastisement" (the kind of quaint torture device all decent communities had back then), has a red hot spike hammered through her back, and dunked into a lake until she's drowned
Two hundred years later, newlyweds Veronica (gothic goddess BARBARA STEELE!) and Philip (IAN OGILVY) find themselves touring Transylvania, the vacation capital of the world: "What a strange place. It's all so full of weirdies and werewolves." "Terrible line, darling. Great alliteration but a terrible line." But when their little Volkswagen bug drives past the above mentioned lake, the car inexplicably goes out of control and crashes into the water. Philip swims to shore but Veronica drowns. Worse, when her body is retrieved from the lake, the corpse isn't Veronica's but -- yes, yes, of course -- Vardella's - Something Weird
A Catholic priest? Don't they even know that Transylvania is Russian Orthodox?

A great film....Reeves first with complete control as a director....he made the most of his low budget. I really liked the mood of this film, the is a seperateness & isolation to it....& the moments of humor actually work for me...I liked it, even Mel Wells comes off pretty good as a lecherous innkeeper...recommended but only to those that have some sense of the times & the history of Reeves as well as Barbara Steele.
