Mini documentary of the Benicia Military Cemetery located in Benicia, California. Soldiers, civilians, animals, and German POW's are interned here. U.S. soldiers serving during The Civil War include Charles E. Jarvis and James W. Sherman, 2nd Regiment US Infantry. Spanish American War, World War I and World War II soldiers are also interned. Many of the traditional headstones mark the burial of Unknown Soldiers. Footage shot by Iza Ellis on a hand held Pure Digital Video camera and edited using iMovie.

Director's Correction:
The reference to pets is inaccurate. The animals buried in this cemetery were buried with honors for service to their country.

  • They are putting american military in the dump now probably because they dont agree with the rape and brutal beating to death of children by those calling themselves american military in Iraq

  • Wow...I had no idea this existed. Thank you. I will be sharing with my husband (a gulf war vet) and son who both work out of Benicia.

  • That looks a lot like saint dominics cemitary

  • What part of Benicia is this in? Eastside im sure. Between E2nd and E5th???

  • this makes me cry....i went there the other day out of boredom, and it's very...quiet there.

  • me too. i love benivia

  • i remember i went here as a kid with 2 of my friends. we thought it was like a secret cemetary because we had hopped a fence in the francesca terrace park... quite the adventure

  • Wonderful video... loved going to the military cemetary as a teen/young adult. I grew up in Benicia. Check out the city library for full info on everyone in the cemetary and cause of death includeing P.O.W. and animals.... included is Sgt. Tuffy the only dog in U.S. Army History to be given rank.
