Here is my little video showing my aquaponics and hydroponics setups.

I will eventually be moving to a house and starting a huge backyard tilapia aquaponics greenhouse. Cant wait!

UPDATE** I got some pretty big fancy goldfish, 10 white catfish, a shark (not the cool kind, but hes alright), and a crap ton of big snails to clean the algae. The water in this video was so clear but now that there is some algae in the tank, it is a little green. Not terrible though.

I also bought a waterfall style filter. Helped a bit.

  • i think i smoked your shit, i took a hit and i thought i was in the lost city of atlantis swimming with fish...

  • @TheStoryWeLive I have basil, thai basil, tomatoes, ghost chillis, habaneros, strawberries and serano peppers.... so which one did you smoke?

  • what kind of lights are you using and how long do u keep them on for?

  • @eggchen44 We started out the system with a 400 watt Metal Halide, and then my roommate told me that that was a crappy quality light and that it was flickering all the time when I was at work and so we decided to throw our high quality 400 watt High Pressure Sodium. Now, I realize that you should use MH for growth and HPS for flowering, but this is working great still. Till we get a better MH. Also, I kept them on 18 hours of light until last week. Now theyre on 12 for my huge tomatos!!

  • That's awesome! How long did you let the aquaponic tank cycle before you added plants? Also, how many gallons is your tank?

  • @jessicakscott sorry.. and also added ammonia to the water. Once the ammonia was there, the bacteria colonies started to form.

Now here is where I did things a bit wierd... I SHOULD have waited a month before adding fish...but I was too impatient as usual (hence why Im doing this in my apartment when Im getting a house soon anyways lol) and I bought 30 little feeder gold fish on like day 6 lol. No bacteria colonies formed. But everything worked!

I want to upload a new video to show growth too

  • Wasting your talents.

  • @mikenewmanphone the ghost chillies i think, i felt like a i was floating acting like a ghost.

  • @jessicakscott Thanks! Well, I actually added the plants right away. I was too excited to wait! Plus, the only real reason to let the tank cycle is so that the fish can have clean ammonia free water and also to get nitrates to feed the plants.

This is what I did: Build system and add plants and water on day one. Then I let it sit overnight till I got some Seaweed/Kelp/Fish extract thats made by a company called "Age Old Organics" and added a few tablespoons in there. This fed the plants and also

  • @bushiyo2 Also, we have other indoor plants too, just not putting them on youtube (:

  • @bushiyo2 .... my patio doesnt get sunlight. At all. This is just done as a hobby.

If you read my description, you would see that this is just practice for when we get our new house in october and we will then have a greenhouse.

With the high amount of fun and learning i have gotten from this system, i would say not a waste at all.
