A tonsillectomy is a 2,000 year-old surgical procedure in which the tonsils are removed from either side of the throat. The procedure is performed in response to cases of repeated occurrence of acute tonsillitis or adenoiditis, obstructive sleep apnea, nasal airway obstruction, snoring, or peritonsillar abscess. Sometimes the adenoids are removed at the same time, a procedure called adenoidectomy. Although tonsillectomy is being performed less frequently than in the 1950s, it remains one of the most common surgical procedures in children.

i had mine revmoved when i was like 3 and like you get put under so you dont feel anything & after it is done you dont have a sore throat !

I got mine out a week ago, for all the people petrified, it really isn't as bad as people say it is. Ya, it's sore but if you suffer from tonsillitis, trust me it's not as painful as that, and if it is, it's worth it because you'll never have to go through the pain again. My experience was pretty good. Rough foods actually speed up the process even though it's painful. My advice, make sure to take 2 weeks rest even if you feel well enough not to, keep up on all your painkillers, & lots of water!

I rather have mine kept in and suffer from tonsillitis every winter (mine appear to act up only in the winter) then get them taken in cause they actually increase the chances of sickness or so I've heard by people who've had this done, they said they get sick way too often after they've had them removed, so I rather stick with the only time I get sick is around winter with intense sore throats.. lol

@agglebag its not that bad, just stay relaxed before. I got mine out in September, I was petrified. Its the recovery that hurts, take all the medicine the doctor gives you cause you'll be in alot of pain after.

Just had mine out 2 days ago with the laser. It doesnt hurt as bad as what some make it out to be. Well i have been listening to the doctor.
