    When production on the series began in 1960, Mel Blanc was asked by Joe Barbera to imitate Art Carney's "Ed Norton" voice as close as possible. Mel said he wouldn't do that, but would give him something CLOSE to it. During the first half-season, that's how Barney sounded. By January 1961, Mel altered the voice to what it sounded like until his death in 1989.
