Rare 1948 Spartan Coach, built in Sturgis Michigan, just north of Lagrange Indiana, in 1948.
This beast has quite a story. It was one of only 50 of its design built, and the only one not sold when Spartan went under. At that time, somebody bought it and did a motorhome conversion. However, removing the heavy bus seats made it tail heavy. Next, some kids used it for wheelies, and put the springs up through the floor (unibody construction).
The current owner purchased it as essentially a wreck, and rebuilt it. He replaced the heavy diesel with a gas engine that weighs 500 pounds less, and added water tanks forward for additional ballast.
Owner has a book of before + after photos that show the scope of work involved.
If has a really nice motorhome.interior, which in this case is correct for the vehicle's history.
