21.04.10: A visually poor quality recording (filmed quickly on impulse on an early digital camera's video setting). Nevertheless, I don't think the lack of visual quality detracts from the great music and I recorded this as it is 'probably' my favourite set of reels that Gerry plays. It's a shame that his son Donal isn't in the shot as he is playing the lovely acompaniement in the background. However, not wanting to miss Donal out I have included two photos of him that I took at that time, although Donal's hair was a lot shorter when I last seen him! Whatever these are two great musicians playing 'mighty tunes' performed by this Dundalk father and son who are descended from generations of musicians. Having known Gerry and his family for twenty years, I also had the pleasure of meeting his mum Rose O'Connor, who taught Gerry and many others to play the fiddle. A fine player and a tremendous character, sadly she has since passed away but, as with all musicians who teach and inspire others to great things - her musical legacy lives on today.
Gerry and Donal have made so many recordings I won't try to list them all, Gerry having played with his band La Lugh, Skylark and a multitude of musicians. Donal has also guested with many artists and recorded with the main group he plays with, Irish band "At First Light". To get more details on the O'Connor's music, please visit: www.gerryoconnor.net In addition, Gerry and Donal have their individual sites on Myspace and Facebook.
Wow. Who cares if it is visually poor! Glad you posted it anyway.
