In 1943 North Africa, George Patton assumes command of the American forces. Engaged in battle against Germany's Field Marshal Rommel, Patton drives back "The Desert Fox" by using the German's own tactics. Promoted to Lieutenant General, Patton is sent to Sicily, where he engages in a personal war of egos with British Field Marshal Montgomery. Performing brilliantly in Italy, Patton seriously jeopardizes his future with a single slap. While touring an Army hospital, the General comes across a GI suffering from nervous fatigue. Incensed by what he considers a slacker, Patton smacks the poor soldier and orders him to get well in a hurry. This incident results in his losing his command-and, by extension, missing out on D-Day. In his final campaign, Patton leads the US 3rd Army through Europe. Unabashedly flamboyant, Patton remains a valuable resource, but ultimately proves too much of a "loose cannon" in comparison to the more level-headed tactics of his old friend Omar Bradley.

General George S. Patton my opinion is the reason the war ended in the time it did if it weren't for him by 1945 we would still have been in Africa.Best commander of the war. Put the desert fox in his cage and kicked his back to Berlin. Patton moved farther and faster in an amount of time that was astonishing to to both Hitler and Stalin. Stalin himself said that the Red Army couldn't have planned nor carried out such a task in the amount of time he did, Hitler refered to him as that damn cowboy

Isn't it quite funny that in movie about George Patton, the German tanks are named after the Patton?

Because of Hitler's lifestyle, millions of people were brutally killed, died tragically, and tortured. That mans name isn't even worth putting in a sentence. The worst part of it all was that Hitler took the quick and easy way out, instead of being tried and punished for his genocide.

Thanx Limey. I've never been an "American fighting man", (at least not in the military anyway). I simply troll these comments looking for what I would describe as "idiots" occasionally. People that seem to think they won all the wars in history by themselves. There were people from nearly EVERY country that fought against the Nazi's, many of them died. Their contributions and sacrifices were equal in my opinion. It's hard to even put into words. No offense meant against "Limeys".
