How can you get tone like that? It sounds so tight and neat!

Im going with Zeitgeisty Report's list of best bass players simply because he appears to be someone who understands the cohesion of the bass player to the band(s) they're playing with.

Simple notes are common to disco and punk. More complex or layering is usually featured in metal and progressive rock. REAL bass players, or those I've studied, understand both the simplicity and complexity of bass, respect both and don't simply count the notes of their favorites. Sorry.

What I will say about John Taylor is that I realize that he plays for a band and that band's roots are disco, so he's playing mainly in that genre. It would make since to compare him to others in that genre. I'm going with what I've learned about using the wah wah pedal and apply it to bass in general, and that is several misused complex notes are useless but a few well used notes are useful. Im saying that John Taylor's notes are well used, making him very skilled.

@BMoseleyINC I'm learning bass and because your chick wanted to bang him doesn't mean he sucks at bass so I cant get caught up in complexity of notes relative to the sound needed on a song or for a particular band and their genre.

I actually went out and bought a bass 2 days ago just to learn Duran Duran, but now I know lots more!

@BMoseleyINC They are all pop fans is all.No bassplayers are serious about their John Taylor studies.

He didn't play Planet Earth with his fingers?! I've spent days training my fingers to play that song at the right pace, thinking the whole time "Man, John must have had some serious finger dexerity!". Well, it's evident in other songs at least!

I wish this was out on DVD with John teaching Bass Method! I am eager to go out and buy a bass guitar. There would be nothing better than being taught by one of the members of my favorite band (not only of the 80's, but of all time)!!!
