http://www.bauer-power.net - My desktop tech and I were talking to our cube neighbor at work about how great Ubuntu Linux is, and how its free and all software on it is free. She was so interested, she asked if she could try it out. I had my desktop tech build her a laptop with Ubuntu Linux on it, and here is her reaction to using Ubuntu for the first time!

  • My first reaction to Linux: Finally something that doesn't crash when i try to do something.

  • I Thought you was going to play a nasty trick on her.

Everyone I tell to try linux says the same thing, its to complicated and they don't understand dos.

When I show them, I get the same reaction as the lady co-worker.

The only thing I struggle with is when things start to act up,then my eyes glaze over.

But the more time you spend on linux, the easier it gets.

I have android as my phone OS as well just to tide me over when I'm not playing with kubuntu/bactrack 5/mint.

I'm not a big user though.

  • @windowspczone no way could I suggest this to anyone for work.

    Why not?

  • A bit of an exageration to say it's compatible with Microsoft Office... Really? Tell me when it's compatible with Publisher files, and it has proper compatibility with Powerpoint files, as no way could I suggest this to anyone for work.

  • Linux power! Just make sure she's educated with the damage one can do with a linux terminal. Which means no "sudo rm /bin" commands.

  • No no no no....geeks...*shake head*. If you give this out to morons are you going to be there on the front lines fielding calls from them. Linux is so much more powerful than Windows...no telling what those customers have done...diagnostic hell. XP was actually pretty decent. I can't even think about Vista without growing pale. You better bullet proof her Linux desktop interface that's all I gotta say!

  • Fake.

  • I advocate GNU/Linux. I've been using it full time for almost 4 years now. Microsoft can take a hike and keep their Windoze - I'll never give them another cent.

  • @livinglegend1187 I've never run into a driver problem with anything. It's not like it used to be. Try out Ubuntu 11.10 on a live CD. It's actually really good now.

  • @livinglegend1187

LOL, Ubuntu Software Center is too hard for you? USB sticks automount and pop up on the desktop nowadays.

  • @livinglegend1187 go under your bridge you troll and stay there were you belong
