This poem 'Knowing' is about me finally accepting the guilt I felt deep within (as a result of childhood sexual abuse) was not mine to carry. Freedom earnt came from painful, honest, examination and acceptance of what I knew as truth. By speaking out, I continue to feel liberated 'Knowing' that the guilt should have never been mine. I post this video hoping that my experience/realisation may be of help to others.

KNOWING

I dont know
Why the uncle I adored
Chose to rape me
I just know he did.

I dont know
Why I was left with carers,
Who cared more for my privates
I just know they did.

I dont know
Why a stranger chose me,
To drag off the street,
Down an alley to molest,
I just know he did.

I dont know
Why people I trusted,
Exposed themselves to me,
I just know they did.

I dont know
What it might have felt like,
To have been a child,
Safe, within my own skin.

What I have come to know
With all my heart,
And without a doubt,
I did not want, need,
Or deserve such attention!

  • You are an inspiration to so many others

  • Saw you on my list and dropped by. Impressive what you do and say,

    Continue the good work.

  • I find this very helpful and supportive right now. Thank you for using your gifts to help heal. You are so very talented.

  • You have very well illustrated one of the the steps of the heraling proccess, the assertion that you are the victim, rather than an instigator of the abuse, and that it is no flaw in your own character that lead to the suffering. Reaching that place, you are now allowed to feel good about yourself,, there is a point to going on with the recovery process, and hope of success.

Well thought out and well-presented. 5*
