  • Johnny's usual 2nd guitar player was Luther Perkins, not Carl.

  • By the time this was recorded, Luther Perkins had passed away. Bob Wootton took his place. While Bob continued to play Luther's famous Boom-chicka-boom style, Carl added some great additional guitar to the sound, and he also played most of the solos. After Carl quit, many other guitarists had this role, among them Marty Stuart in the early 80's.

  • Bob Wootton played most of the solos becuase he was lead guitarist, not Carl Perkins. Carl only played some solos. Bob played the solos on the hits and famous Cash hits.

  • Your right, it should be "some", not "most".. lol

  • Is that Carl Perkins playing second guitar, becuase it does not look like it.

  • It's hard to determine by watching this clip, but it is Carl Perkins. Less hair than usual :)

  • A song with the name of another known legend.

  • Wayne Newton plays a good guitar.

  • Well considering that Luther Perkins died in 1968, that would have to be Carl Perkins.

  • I work in IT and average about 10-15 hours of unpaid OT a week plus weekend calls whenever the manager feels like it. I can't remember the last time I had a vacation. I wake up tired every morning. Song is still relevant as fuck.

Thank you Johnny, for understanding what it's like.

  • I love that close to diabolical laugh he gave for us.

  • @jeffandmatilda buy the CD "Live at San Quentin",& you can hear Johnny Cash say, Luther Perkins, died. Then he introduces later Carl Perkins, who joined the band, and Bob Wooten, who replaced Luther.
