Here's the Supershow's resident band appearing on The Brady Bunch Variety Hour. Does anyone else find it disconcerting that the abbreviation of their name is triple-K?

  • The Supershow debuted as a 90 minute show in September '76 with Kaptain Kool, Flatbush, Turkey, Superchick & Nashville. Three months or so later, the show was cut to 60 minutes and Flatbush vanished without explanation. This clip is from January '77, right after he exited the band. Initially the makeup & costumes were very flamboyant (Flatbush wore his signature pimp hat!) but they began toning it down - the following season, the guys didn't wear makeup or glitter. Maybe that's why he left?

  • Yeah I remember this show and others like it way back when i was a kid. At the time I thought it was just the style and it was. But didn't think it was experimental but you're right. I miss those days :(

Nothing on tv today, movies are crap, so is music (can it still be called music?) and society isn't groovy anymore. I wanna go back to the 70's!!!! 21st Century sucks.

  • This show was an odd clash of genres, kinda typical of the Seventies, when TV was actually a lot more experimental than we give credit for. The Kongs started out as a glam pastiche filtered through the Kroffs' family-friendly sensibility, then got toned down further and further.

But don't forget that KISS and Alice Cooper were glam too, and they were booked for prime-time appearances. Jarring, ironic gigs that fit right into the decade's eclectic tastes.

  • @BBVHFan I talked to Mickey McNeel (Turkey) recently. He said Burt Sommer (Flatbush) left, to resume his professional singing career.

  • i have not seen this since 1976.

thanks so much for the post.

  • Wow, the guitarist and drummer were actual musicians. I was pleased to see that.

  • @Warhawkwv YOU SAID IT!!!!!!!!

  • Kind of unfortunate alliteration in their choice of band name. The KKK's?

  • I'm not putting down the kids today but they have everything at a click of a button. They don't have to wait or anticipate for shows or songs to come out. We only had 6 channels & not a ton of kids programs so it was great waiting for your favorite show to come on & everyone your age watching the same thing. Now there are so many options kids don't value it.

  • Bert Sommers (Flatbush) was a drug addict. His addiction eventually killed him.

  • that type of water ballet eventually became an olympic sport.

    Who knew?

  • Im glad I was born in the 70s (1973) so I can tell the new kids what they missed compaired to whats on now(HOT GARBAGE)

  • Man, I love music from the 70's. This was cool!
