well, that's kind of like saying rock band ripped off guitar hero... Rock Band's makers made the original guitar hero games, so they didn't rip it off. Konami originally came up with the concept of guitar/drumming games, and vertical scrolling was fine before people got all used to GH/RB-type scrolling.

Despite all that, I must agree that by today's standards this game sucks.
