The people who owns the oil companies are the same who owns the banks. So what you are trapped in is a "fake" dualism. It's not about oil companies. It's about citizens getting squash again. They'll pass a carbon tax but the real culprit won't pay a dime. However, because I let my motor running for 5 minutes in the winter, I'll have to pay for that? It is central government and authoritarianism that we should be wary of, no matter what the pretext. The government can hijack any scheme and use it for their own benefit, but that doesn't mean that we don't have an obligation to look out for our own planet.
