Author Mark Steyn says some home truths about the American economy, it's sinking fast, and their bent empire building is over. You don't need to buy his book to see the USA is collapsing.

Recorded from BBC Newsnight, 25 August 2011.

  • Is Kirsty Wark really as thick as she appears to be?

  • @irdial Even thicker!

The governments aided and abetted the bankers frauds, they did not tackle the financial crisis in 2008, the politicians and regulators helped it along.

  • @liarpoliticians Thanks for posting these infuriating videos. Those of us who do not own televisions dont get the benefit of the circulation boosting, blood boiling nonsense of the BBC. You should put up a Bitcoin address on every video you post, so we can tip you instead of the pointless thumbs up!

  • The banking system is flawed from the inside - fractional reserve banking is what is destroying the West. Why can no one seem to pick up on this?

  • Then these "countless wars" you mentioned.

Rwanda, Congo, Bosnia, Chechnya, China invading Vietnam, East Timor, Northern Ireland, Hungarian Uprising, Darfur, Algeria, Serra Leon, the Shining Path in Peru, the Kashmir, Tibet, Georgia, Iran Iraq War, Zimbabwe, Angola......all are conflicts NOT involving the US.

The US is a bystander, an outside player in most of this. With ethnic hatred going back before the US was conceived, it hardly needs to US to encourage them does it?

  • We have forgiven Germany-It too is a democratic country, built through the Marshall Plan and Bretton Woods Agreement. Nothing to do with Israel.

As for Israel being a racist state, then why are there Arab Members of the Knesset, a Arab High Court Judge, full voting rights for Arabs, Official Language for Arabic? Why was the Mayor of East Jerusalem a Arab Israeli? If there is "genocide" why are Israeli AND Palestinians doing joint protests against Assad today?

    Would they all be dead?

  • @dopplereffeckt675 - OK, we forgive the sin of nuclear bombing of citizens by America, mitigated by your reflections of the positive results. And Zionist Jews of course, as well as the rest of the world should forgive Germany, for without the Holocaust narrative, Israel wouldn't exist as a racist Jewish state. Relative peace in the US depended upon America's bullying and countless wars (declared or otherwise) since 1950.

    Really????

I thought America was standing up for liberty and freedom-I mean without those "nukes", Japan wouldn't be the democratic country it is today.

As for being a "smaller" USA? Well when Texas gets fed up of bailing out California, and other states walk away from Old Glory, there won't be a USA.

Without "Team America" the relative peace we have enjoyed for the last 60 years will also end. There will be more war and a return to the Dark Ages.

    I

  • @dopplereffeckt675 - Yeah sure, maybe. But the old superpower just turned into a nasty, greedy bullshitter that milked the world for what it could get, nuked a couple of cities and set up a vast military empire throughout the world, and held countries at ransom. Smaller America means less greedy wars. Peace.

I love the American Dream and its Constitution. Sadly too many American's have turned there back to what the Founding Fathers offered the new nation.

Just think, the next superpower will be a authoritarian country, with no rights or rule of law with 1.3 billion mouths to feed. Do you think that they will be so forgiving to Westerners regarding employment prospects or free speech?

No, the future looks very bleak, at least Mr Steyn has the guts to tell it as it is.

  • @JohnnyRock2000

That's the point that Mark Steyn is making, and its a very disturbing picture. The waste of human capital, both in the US and Europe is staggering. Think about it-in 1969 we reached the moon. Now the only advance today "social media"-which is the ability to tell the world when you are going toilet.

We are cossetted and pampered, with this nonsense regarding "rights" and "entitlements" (cont)

  • @dopplereffeckt675 - I hear you. The West will end up with no "value added" industry and live off supplying raw materials to China and other manufacturing nations. Life as a non-producer begins for the West. I don't know how large populations survive when the employed become facilitators and service providers.Back to the days of job security rules of half a century ago...cops, firefighters, nurses, doctors becoming the elite in an unemployed world, just because they have at least guaranteed jobs

  • @erelpc

Sadly she is not naive, she is a shrill socialist hack employed by the state. In the "democratic" UK you go to jail for not paying the telly-tax Danegeld to the BBC.

  • @dopplereffeckt675

I stand corrected- its $15 TRILLION.....
