Episode 5 of General Vamp's Quick Recipes from the wonderful series Astro Fighter Sunred. Inserted every few episodes in the series are these easy-to-make recipes. For your convenience and education, I have extracted them and put them on YouTube.

Ingredients:
A chicken cutlet
Onion
An egg
Sukiyaki sauce
Water

Procedure:
Slice the onions and boil them in sukiyaki sauce. Slice the chicken cutlet into pieces. When the onions become soft, place the cutlet slices into the pot with the onions and boil the combination. Scramble the egg. When the cutlet is warmed up, pour the scrambled egg over it. When the egg is cooked, remove the mixture and serve over rice.

Enjoy!

  • Is there another recipe to make sukiyaki sauce without the use of mirin as im not allowed to take alcohol.. :)

  • @Alfiz88 You can leave the mirin out (I usually do), since it's not absolutely vital. They do make a mirin version called "shin mirin" with very small amounts of alcohol (< 1%) if you can get by with that. If you're on a strict prohibition, you should also check the label on the soy sauce. The Japanese versions I get at my local Asian grocer (Kikkoman or Yamasa) use small amounts of alcohol as a preservative, but the American versions use sodium benzoate instead.

  • So what would the english version of sukiyaki sauce be out of interest?

  • There isn't a commonly available western equivalent, but you can make a sukiyaki-like sauce by mixing brown sugar, soy sauce, and a little bit of water. To make it more authentic, add a little bit of dashi and mirin, both of which you should be able to find at an Asian grocer (though if you can find dashi and mirin, chances are you can also find sukiyaki sauce).

  • @wonchopmonkeyman I have a recipe here that I've translated from a Japanese cooking magazine. Try it and see if it works! :)

Soy sauce (shoyu) - 180 cc

    Mirin - 180 cc

    Sugar - 70 grams

    Water - 100 cc

Sake (rice wine) - 2 Tablespoons

    Dried kombu - Roughly 5 cm-long piece

    1) Put everything but the kombu in a pot and heat until bubbling. Simmer for a few minutes.

    2) Add the piece of kombu in the pot, and let cool. Then use! :)

    Hope this helps!

  • Oh I forget recipe and use Tonkatsu sauce and Mirin instead of sukiyaki sauce.Still I finish the dish in one go.
