ANKOAY Girls Choir - Malagasy musical group - Madagascar

ANKOAY (pronounced ahn-kwai) is a Madagascar Fish Eagle. In this case it is the name for a Malagasy girls choir. I met their director/teacher Gabriel in Madagascar while there on a photographic assignment. He said he would like to share the music he has written with the world. I told him I had limited equipment in the country but would do my best for him. We recorded his songs and a short video in a small town in Madagascar. The voice over we recorded was done in the evening so you can hear the sounds of the forest in the background.

This is a "trailer" for the upcoming release of his songs on iTunes. Money made from the sales will go back to help educate the students and cover teacher salaries and school supplies.

Ankoay's songs cover education, conservation and preservation not only of Madagascar but the world in general.

Madagascar has serious environmental issues and Ankoay seeks to bring attention to their plight. Hunger/clean water and deforestation are top environmental concerns.

Gabriel and ANKOAY are currently involved with a local reforestation project in their local village. In exchange for English classes, Gabriel requires a certain number of trees to be replanted by the students.

This is a great example of people helping themselves and their local environment.
