  • Is the King of Spain the head of state of Mexico, Argentina or Venezuela ? NO Having a head of state who does not live in your country is the absolute height of stupidity.

  • @ThisMoniker What is really amazing is that there is more of a republic movement in England than there is in Canada ? The ultimate WTF !

  • @mtlilr We are a westminster style federal DEMOCRACY with constitutional monarchy. The monarch has absolutely no political voice unless in a time of constitutional crisis (such as in 2008 when the gg prorogued parliament). Regularly however, is is the pm (who is elected) who has all the power. In fact, it is constitutionally prohibited for the monarch or gg to even express an opinion.

  • @RoyalistCavalier @RoyalistCavalier And now when the"British Empire" is no more what's the big deal for Canada to become republic? Is Canada independent sovereign nation or not? How can democracy tolerate an unelected head of state that doesn't even live in your country? That's completely beyond me to understand or to accept! How is possible for you to have an unelected head of state and to call yourself "one of the oldest democracies in the world"?

  • Our connection to the marchy is the only thing that gives Canada an absolute culture... think of all the Canadian symbols.. the RCMP, our ceremonial guard... victoria day, non would exist without us being a monarchy. We're too established the way we are to change. Secondly, so what if the queen doesn't serve a large political purpose.. being a monarchy adds a little magic and history into our lives that couldn't exist without it.. royal weddings, jubilees, royal visits.. etc..

  • Booting out a foreign influence is in the exact same spirit as the English Reformation. Phasing out the monarchy could very well indeed be interpreted as a characteriistic we have inhereted from our British past.

  • @nauort23

you obviously know nothing of history.

    American?

  • @geardtwo

that's actually nothing like what it is, and you just made yourself sound really stupid.

Canada's Head of State is the same culture as the House of Windsor.

  • @jsinc909

you're a sad collection of historically ignorant idiots, aren't you...

  • @BatDude27 The creation of Canada was made possible by workers from all over the world who came to the country to establish a new life for themselves. Paying for wages hardly makes them the true owners of the country. It's not a company.

  • @logprome the creation of the Canada we know today was made possible by the monarchs. They invested greatly in the land that previously didnt even have any legitimate structures built. They payed for the workers and settlers as well as the resources needed to keep them alive. Technically their the rightful owners of the country.
