Thanks for your reply. I have a 1996 version entitled 'The Great Organ of Saint Patrick's Cathedral' on the Gothic label played by Donald Dumler also but my ears tell me that it's a different recording altogether. Am I right?
2468HotRod - That recording was Donald Dumler playing the Prelude and Fugue on ALAIN and you're right on, it was electrifying. That recording was of John Grady and Donald playing several pieces together, a Handel concerto, the Widor toccata, etc. By the way, Donald is still playing at St. Patrick's Cathedral!
I have a recording of this piece from over 30 years ago, recorded at St. Patrick's Cathedral, NY. Don't know who the organist was back then, but is my favorite. It's packed away somewhere in storage. Gotta go find that one. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Lovely, absolutely lovely. I adored these two pieces for years. So nice to see them performed. One can't help but feel for the slain Jehan....

Anyone know J. William Herndon, Jr.
(Bill Herndon)
Studied organ at U of Michigan.
I met him in 1973. Lost touch.
Thank you.
What a wonderful gentle optimistic-sounding piece.
So rich in color and complexity and then builds to such power.
Wish the sound and video matched.
No go play at nearby St. Paul's Cathedral.
