John Hardy - Blue Letters From Tanganyika: On Safari (clip 2)

A clip from 'On Safari' from the orchestra suite "Blue Letters From Tanganyika" by John Hardy. The music is inspired by the adventures described in the blue airmail letters that John's mother sent home to England when she was working as a young teacher in Africa.

'When going on a journey they would wake long before dawn and set off as soon as it became light, because in the middle part of the day the heat and the glare of the sun on the lake are unbearable. "Most places just watch the sun, and as soon as it appears over the hills that is the first hour of the day." She travelled with her tour manager Absalom and a group of young African men. On foot their journeys were hard, long and hot. If they became ill, there was nothing to do but continue.' (from the album booklet)
