How anyone who isn't near this level can make that assessment always amazes me.

There aren't a handful of drummers who ever lived more technical than him. You're seeking to sound more qualified than you are by opting for the word "able" which there is no need for.

If he is able and expresses that ability at all then he is technical.

@hoodlum666 Continuing my argument..He used to be in tons of rock bands that played simply ie Southern Sons. Don't bag my user name cos Toto are amazing musicians that were each individually the top session guys in LA during the 70s 80s and right through till now. Look up their discographies and u may learn something. Virgil's band play music that they are capable of playing that is different from other styles. its called originality.
