Wow, a brand new pair of Tony Lama boots split open after two weeks. The cause? Tony Lama puts junk foam in their sole, just under the leather, so soon as the stitches around the edges wear out, the boot splits open. When will American companies learn to quit making their good products into trash? We explain how boots are generally made, repaired, and why a good boot won't do this. Not sure what made Tony Lama decide to destroy their reputation for quality by giving up on good practices.

  • Hey, that is a fabulous great story. I'm wearing a pair of soft Luchesee's, Hand repaired the Tony Lamas, and may be using them in the last days, battling snow, cold and slush into DC and NY. 5 days to DC.

  • Go buy you some ARIAT SEDONAS ; I promise you they are Damn good boots .They form to your feet well and will last a long time. I've been wear mine for 5 years dayin and dayout and they still have the original soles.. .. Justin owns Tony Lama!!!!!!

  • God that sucks. Justin's aren't that great and now Tony Lama has the virus. Thanks for the tip. Luchese's (sp) have been pretty good.

  • Are just the "cushion comfort" soles made like that or are all the Tony Lamas junk now?

  • I could not find any alternate style or price of Tony Lama. $200 buys you two weeks in a Tony Lama now. All the black ones I looked at were the same.

  • this is my 2nd week of having my square toe, brown smooth ostrich, made by justin. i am satisfied and they are very well built. but i allways wonder how a pair of anderson beans would hold up

  • Continued.....

8 years and many miles later the new pair came out of the box and fitted perfectly.

Now, I'm not doubting that yours fell apart. However, I just cant fault mine whatsoever, and I even sent off by mail order (something I would never usually do for shoes or boots) for a new pair. Also, I even did a search for them on You Tube - thats how much I love them.

I would have paid twice the price for them! And I have no connection with Tony Lama, for the record.

  • I just bought another pair of Tony Lama boots. Why? Because the first pair I bought have just given up the ghost. However, the old ones were 8 years old and have taken me pretty much all over the world. I had them re-soled when I wore a hole in the sole. I had to re-sole the re-sole, when the kind gentleman at Bogota airport tried to rip the new sole off in his vigorous drug search. The 2nd sole was put on in Cuba, but it wasnt a good job so I had another pair shipped to the UK.

  • Thats just not good enough, 2 weeks geez. i got a old pair of tony lama, they are still ok, but its not with the soft sole,

i also got a few pairs of boulet boots, they are just great, wear them everyday for 3 years, only had the heal and sole replaced once,

  • Okay. What's the model # of the boot that fell apart?
