He hit his head in Walk the line , after the times a wastin song. Thats why he became this fuckd up changing his name crashing with cars starting to rap feeling like shit everyday. He probably injured his Brain Stem but the psychatrists tell him he has had a stressfull life. If Joaq reads this he should get an MRI cuz that smack into the wall was not fake and it lookd nasty, thats where the germans used to smack you as a killing blow, to the back of your head.

I've never heard of Joaquin Phoenix before, but he makes a very pleasant change to the usual big mouthed talk about me, me, fucking me guests that Letterman usually has on. I like this guy. He's genuine and sincere.

This is really kind of surreal and ironic, the entire aspect of it. Letterman is being a total asshole and (call me crazy) Joaquin seems very sincere in everything that he's saying. I think he's observing the absurdity about the spectacle of celebrity, but that isn't to say that there isn't something seriously wrong with him. At 2:03, that sigh he gives at the thought of coming back to the world of an actor seems so morose. He might be on the verge of a breakdown, and folks are laughting at him
