I saw Ms. Soviero twice; as Butterfly and later, Angelica. In my years of going to the opera I can say that I have never cried. All that changed when I saw this great artist in those 2 roles. Her Butterfly was a cathartic experience; pure, palpable heartbreak. I cried openly. Her Angelica was a revelation. The death scene was bone chilling in its power. Again, I cried. I'll never understand why she wasn't a MAJOR star. If anyone deserved it, it was she. The consummate vocal actress.

I remember her singing in Faust with Shicoff in chicago 21 years ago and meeting her afterwards her voice had heft and she sang very well, so did Neil and she was very nice to all her fans besides. Brava!

A rare find: a singer who understands the power and persuasion of stillness. I saw her Dallas Trittico in the early '90s, her Seattle Chenier years later and will never forget them. She is the greatest artist I have experienced live.
