Brian Williams on Sarah Palin
NBC Nightly News 7:40pm
Interview

TOPIC: Conclusion of NBCs series of interviews with McCain/Palin

TRANSCRIPT:
BRIAN WILLIAMS: We caught up with her on the campaign trail in Ohio . . .

[cut to interview]

WILLIAMS: Where are you coming from this morning?

SARAH PALIN: We were in, uh, we were in other parts of Ohio?

WILLIAMS: Is there any more important state?

JOHN MCCAIN: Naw, theres some as important.

WILLIAMS: By the time we caught up with the GOP ticket on the trail at midweek, it had been a tough week for Sarah Palin. She had told a student questioner the vice president was, quote, in charge, of the US Senate. Then came the story about the RNC ponying up $150,000 for a new high-end wardrobe and other personal items; damaging to the self-described hockey mom. But the more damaging numbers, the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, showing 55% of respondents now believe Palin is not qualified to be president. Then, just today, Palin and her husband were placed under oath for depositions in the so-called Troopergate investigation in Alaska. McCain and Palin dont relate to each other like close friends; theyve only really known each other for two months. And for most of that time, theyve been traveling in sepearate orbits across the continent. When theyre together, at least in front of a visitor, they catch up on each others children and talk about that days campaign strategies.

[ . . . ]

WILLIAMS: Just this week, Palin seemed to be taking charge of more of her message and her time with the media. At one point she broke away from her handlers to take a few questions on an airport tarmac.

[cut to (non-tarmac) interview]

PALIN: Were doing interviews every day. Weve got interviews scheduled every day.

WILLIAMS: Are you liking it more?

PALIN: Ive loved it from day one. My life has been an open book and my life is an open book today and you know, Americans deserve to know that the background, the associations, the affiliations of a VP candidate. Im willing to continue being an open book. But, Ill tell you, there have been some unfair shots taken by some of your colleagues against, certainly trying to spin my record into something that it is not and thats been a little bit frustrating but, um, I think the most frustrating thing has been some unfair shots taken against my family because they have been based on lies and thats kind of hurtful.

WILLIAMS: Anything you want to correct the record on?

PALIN: Weve been trying from day one to correct the record on things like, my alleged, uh, attempts to censor books, of course thats never happened and, um, my record of, oh shoot, Im not going to rehash some of the old, ugly stuff. But Brian, there is some frustration there in understanding you cant pick a fight in those who buy ink by the barrelful in the media, it doesnt do any good. But, if these things were true, that have been said about me, or my family, or my record as a governor, as a mayor, if those things were true, I wouldnt like me either, if I were to believe all the things that have been reported. Theres been a lot of false allegations out there.

WILLIAMS: Our brief conversation led to the inevitable question about her future in politics if she and John McCain do not win on Nov. 4th.

PALIN: As for furtherance in a political career, Im not even going to think about that. Im thinking between now and Nov. 4th, what it is that we have to do in reaching out to the electorate, in letting them know who John McCain is, what we represent and how electing John McCain is the right decision for the future of America.

WILLIAMS: Even though you know the talk about you will start the day after the election if youre unsuccessful.

PALIN: Well, Im concentrating on Nov. 4th and, um, just having a lot of faith in the wisdom of the people in understanding that getting the economy back on track and winning the wars, John McCain is the right leader to get us there on both those fronts.

  • I'm fucking Sarah Palin!

  • Hi Stargirlsusan. I got the cut and paste of his quote slightly out of order but yes, Hugo Chavez made the comment. He was making a play on the biblical text of Christ "Forgive them for they know what they do", when he said (as reported in the Australian press) "Forgive her, for she knows not what she says."

I can't comment on Hugo but I did think it was quite a clever comment.

  • Hugo Chavez????!!!!

  • Ya shes looking after her own career. shes like fuck mcain. probablly she did..lol

  • I take exception to the statement that Sarah's mouth runs detached from her brain. That is an awful thing to say about someone. She can't help it that her brain is really really tiny.

  • "The poor thing, you have to feel sorry for her," he said with a dismissive wave of his hand. Palin, he said, is "a beauty queen that they've put in the role of a figurine."

As reported in the Australian press tonight... [Hugo] Chavez said one must do as Christ did: "Forgive her, for she knows not what she says."

  • >Every gaff that Obama and Biden make

    >are dismissed!

    Care to post some examples?

Please, please, I am waiting. I've search all over and found none. Golly gee, must be a liberal conspiracy! Just like how dumb Palin appears! It is a liberal conspiracy to make her look bad, correct? Clever video editing, perhaps? Yeah, that's it! The whole world is conspiring against a few dumb rednecks. Don't worry though, conservatives aspire and take pride in their ignorance. Nothing is lost!

  • why? cause she can't answer simple questions? Palin has dug her own grave.

  • network news is only doing their professional job. why should they pander to a public figure just because sympathetic groups of people want it that way? news is supposed to be

    investigative.

maybe you Palin supporters should only tune into fox news for their mostly favorable portrayal of Gov. Palin. or you could even bury your heads in the warm sand, where your imaginations can make her a whatever fantasy you choose.

  • At this point in the game Republicans are still trying to let people know who McCain is? I think we all know by now.
